Emanti WWMD Activities to be featured in Annual Review 2010
Emanti became an active WWMD partner during 2010, distributing WWMD kits to more than 377 scholars! This was made possible by joining forces with Stellenbosch Local Municipality in the Western Cape province, South Africa. Emanti and Stellenbosch Municipality kicked off their WWMD programme on Monday, 13th September at Cloetesville High School, followed by Stellenbosch High School (14th Sept), Kayamandi High School (15th Sept) and Bloemhof High School (4th October). Emanti further continued their WWMD activities at Bridgehouse and Simondium High School on the 8th October and ended there programme for 2010 at Somerset College (8th Nov).
The WWMD programme included educating more than 1,000 scholars on water quality management (e.g. what is required to ensure that all consumers receive safe drinking water) and resource pollution prevention. Thereafter it was time for the scholars to perform basic water tests on both river and tap water using WWMD test kit. Besides students getting a valuable hands-on experience in science, they also learned the importance of protecting our water resources and that stewardship of the environment is everyone’s responsibility. Scholars also got the opportunity to complete a water quiz and upload water quality data from the day’s activities onto Emanti’s mobile water application, eMWAP.
Emanti WWMD Activities will be featured in the Annual WWMD Year in Review book for 2010. Emanti Management will continue their WWMD efforts in Southern Africa (and already have two schools lined up for January 2011!), educating more scholars and communities about the vital part they can play in the protection of our water resources.
