Growing water and wastewater risk management capacity at District Municipalities

The Department of Science and Technology has appointed Emanti to assist in capacitating District Municipalities (DM) of KwaZulu Natal and Eastern Cape in Water Safety Plan (WSP) and Wastewater Risk Abatement Plan (W2RAP) aspects to manage their water and wastewater systems more effectively and in so doing better comply with the Blue and Green Drop Certification requirements. In the initial stage, a situational analysis will be conducted on any existing WSPs and W2RAPs to identify the gaps with the risk management for each system and to align the approach to Blue and Green Drop requirements. Where no risk management is in place, the Emanti team will facilitate completion of a WSP and/or W2RAP for the DMs, and provide advice regarding plan implementation. The main aim of the project is to capacitate the DMs such that they have the confidence to conduct risk assessments and associated management for their other systems.
