Energy-Electricity and Solid Waste Municipal Services Benchmarking Kick-Off Workshops
A key part of the Municipal Benchmarking Initiative (MBI) is to engage and interact with various sector champions and key stakeholders to both understand needs and challenges, and identify and share good and best practice that will benefit municipal services. To kick off the process, two separate workshops were held at the SALGA offices in Pretoria – 3rd August 2017 for Solid Waste and 22nd August for Energy-Electricity.
At the workshops, the status of the sector was discussed, and the proposed way forward for the MBI was presented to illicit comment thereon. Very fruitful discussions arose which will assist with determining the appropriate approaches, processes and mechanisms for the MBI for each sector.
At the workshops, the Emanti team presented the draft Vision, Goal and Strategic Direction of the MBI, and presented a six step Roadmap covering the first 12 months (April 2017 to March 2018) of the initiative. The Roadmap highlights the importance of a guiding operational model, a duly constituted Steering Committee, development of a Strategic Plan to guide sustainability over years 2 to 4 of the MBI, and the importance of a municipal business health check to support the performance management cycle.
Municipal attendees were generally positive towards the MBI approach and excited about what the MBI could offer them, and indicated their willingness to participate in the MBI, and drive progressive improvement forward.
We look forward to working with the energy-electricity and solid waste sectors. If your municipality would like to get involved in the MBI, please contact us.
