Enhancing Emanti’s Mine Water Knowledge

Emanti was recently appointed by the WRC to develop a web-enabled mine water management vulnerability assessment tool and as part of this initiative, we felt it’s important to sharpen our mine water skills. Unathi Jack and Warren Retief joined some 50 delegates at a mine water management short course held in Pretoria from 11-13 May 2016. The course covered topics such as mining methods, water inrushes, dewatering methods, mine flooding, mine water chemistry, prediction of mine flooding and mine water treatment. The course concluded with an exciting site-visit to a coal mine in eMalahleni (Mpumalanga) where mine water samples were taken and on-site analysis was conducted.
