Sharing Emanti’s Experiences with Developing, Implementing and Maintaining Water Sector Tools
The Water Research Commission (WRC) invited Emanti to participate in the 3rd Biennial WRC Symposium that was held in Johannesburg, 18-20 September 2017. The theme for this year’s WRC Symposium was “Adaptation to The New Normal” which was selected to address issues of behavioural change, governance, policy, resilience and technology.
As part of the programme, Emanti was tasked to be part of a panel discussion on the use of technical tools for decision support and monitoring and evaluation, amongst others.
The event consisted of a few short presentations upfront to set the scene followed by an interview style interactive session around:
- The value of tools for decision support,
- Municipal experience with using the tools (e.g. can municipalities easily use the tools or does it require specialist technical support?), and
- An indication of what other tools may be required to support investment, or operations and maintenance or monitoring and evaluation of infrastructure in the South African water sector.
The session included discussions with partners from Watershare, including KWR (Netherlands), JWRC (Japan), NTUA (Greece) and WRC (South Africa). The session clearly illustrated the concept and benefits of global partnering, and offered opportunities for Emanti and other organizations to join ongoing efforts in developing and refining tools for the benefit of the water sector.
