Water and Power – Essential for Growth
Mulilo Thermal Project Developments (Pty) Ltd (Mulilo) and its partner, Uniper Kraftwerke GmbH (Uniper) is proposing to develop electricity from Gas-to-Power (GTP) projects in Saldanha Bay, referred to as the Uyekraal GTP (UGTP) Development. Emanti have been appointed as part of the CSIR team to conduct a full Scoping and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process for the construction and operation of the proposed facilities. Emanti will focus on Water Quality and Stormwater Management. The study will investigate water use, the proposed handling of liquid waste generated on-site (e.g. domestic wastewater, contaminated stormwater), and the impacts and associated management of possible emergency conditions (e.g. spillage). The impacts will include confirmation and assessment of available water sources (assumed minimal requirements, mostly during construction), liquid wastewater characterization (assumed minimal domestic wastewater, possibly contaminated stormwater from poor handling and/or spillage) and on-site liquid waste management requirements. The above information will be used to assess the impact of the proposed project during construction, operation and decommissioning phases. Based on the significance of the impacts, recommendations will be made regarding mitigation measures, environmental management and monitoring (i.e. develop an appropriate Environmental Management Plan).
